Synthony
Orchestral anthems in front of a packed Auckland Domain. Shot from the artist’s side of the barrier, where the scale only becomes real when you turn around.
The assignment
Synthony puts a full orchestra behind dance anthems and fills the Domain with them. This was not shot from the pit with the press. It was shot on stage with the artists, which is a different job entirely: you are inside the performance rather than pointed at it, and the frames have to earn that access.
The hunt
The performer suspended mid air over the decks with the whole Domain behind him. The moment an artist turns his own phone on the crowd instead of the other way round. Arms thrown wide from behind, so you read the room and not the face. Energy mode, available light only, wide enough to hold the field and close enough to stay human.
